Google Search Console is an online tool by Google. Google Search Console provides you with detailed information about your website. The tool shows you how often Google crawls your website, how many URLs of your website Google has indexed, and whether there are HTML errors on your website.

Furthermore, Google Search Console gives you insights about the performance of your website in Google . These are the metrics that are provided:

  • Clicks

How many times users have clicked on URLs of your website on Google SERPs.

  • Impressions

How many times have your URLs appeared in Google SERPs.

  • Click-through rate

The ratio of Clicks to Impressions.

  • Average Position

The average Position of your URLs in Google SERPs.

Note:

Google Search Console provides you only with data from Google. Thus, the data is about Google SERPs only. The data is not about Bing SERPs or Yahoo SERPs.

How Do I Use Google Search Console for my Website?

To use Google Search Console, verify your website. Verify your website in Google Search Console this way:

  1. Open your web browser.
  2. Go to the Google Search Console website

  1. Enter the Email address or phone number of your Google account in the field Email of phone number.
  2. Click
  3. Enter your password in the field password.
  4. Click sign in.

  1. Click ADD A PROPERTY.

  1. Follow the instructions.

Once you have followed the instructions of step 12, your website is verified in Google Search Console.

How Do I Upload the HTML Verification File to my Web Server?

Prerequisites:

  • Download the HTML verification file.
  • Download a FTP client.
  • Get the login data to your FTP account:
    • name of the FTP server
    • user name
    • password
  1. Open your FTP client.
  2. Connect to your web server.
  3. Open the root directory of your website.
  4. Upload the HTML verification file to the root directory.
  5. Close your FTP client.

The HTML verification file is uploaded to your web server.

Once you have uploaded the HTML verification file to your web server, follow the instructions of step 12 at point 3.

What are the Functions of Google Search Console?

Google Search Console has more functions than the ones that are explained in the section In this section I show you the most important functions:

Links to your site provides you with information about the backlinks of your website. This means, the tool shows you how many websites link to your website. Furthermore, Links to your site shows you to which URL other websites link.

Internal Links provides you with the internal link profile of your website. Analyzing the internal link profile helps you to detect which URL gets most internal links.

Crawl Stats

Crawl Stats shows you how many pages Google crawls daily.

Index Status

Index Status shows you how many URLs of your website are indexed by Google.
